NVIDIA launched their new graphics cards today.
Usually, I wouldn’t care but I’m looking to upgrade. I built my computer about 6 years ago, and it’s starting to show its age. It’s time for an upgrade.
I’ve been anxiously waiting for NVIDIA to launch its new line since I heard that new stuff was coming. If you are like me you probably saw all the leaks online. It seems as though they were pretty close. NVIDIA has made some huge strides in artificial intelligence and graphics over the last several years. Being a developer, interested in both of those areas, I’m really excited to see what will they will do next. They have upped their performance 2x over the last generation Turing architecture with Ampere. The results are stunning, to say the least. I’m really excited to see how my game experience improves with this new architecture. I’m still on the GTX 970, so you can imagine the performance I get. It’s okay, but compared to Ampere I might as well just throw it in the trash. (I won’t).
RTX 3070
The RTX 3070 debuts in October 2020. As one of their lower end GPUs you can get excellet performance on a budget. The 3070 is expected to perform better than the 2080Ti. Talk about incredible. It features 8GB of GDDR6X video memory for the low price of $499.
RTX 3080
The RTX 3080 will be launched very soon. Soon as in 2 weeks soon. September 17th 2020 to be exact. It’s their flagship GPU and will feature 10GB of GDDR6X video memory. While expensive, it is cheaper than I expected at $699.
RTX 3090
Its a BEAST! It’s a MONSTER! It’s the BFGPU! It’s THE RTX 3090! This thing is MASSIVE. I mean massive. It has an incredible 24GB of GDDR6X memory. It’s supposed to run with the TITAN line but doesn’t sport the same branding. TITAN has always been seen as an overpriced, underperforming GPU. Not anymore. The branding is gone, and with it comes 8K real-time ray-traced DLSS 2.0 gaming goodness. This thing is truly a marvel of engineering. I’m truly impressed. But if you have a small pocketbook this GPU is not for you. It comes in at $1499, a very steep price, but $1000 less than the last TITAN card. The 3090 will launch on September 24th, 2020.
The performance numbers were great in all of the GPUs, but I didn’t write them down so… sorry. I could look them up but you know me. I’m a master procrastinator. Also, too many numbers is hard to read in a blog post, and a simple google search will yield the results if you are interested in those numbers.
If I missed something, or got something wrong, let me know. My internet decided to have some issues in the middle of the event so I could have missed something. Jensen made a couple rap songs about GPUs for me which were very entertaining but not what I wanted to listen to when trying to watch a live event.
